“This isn’t about the money to me any more. It’s about being a champion,” said Ortiz (18-11-1 MMA, 2-0 BMMA), who on Saturday fights Bellator light-heavyweight champ Liam McGeary (10-0 MMA, 7-0 BMMA) at “Bellator 142: Dynamite,” which takes place at SAP Center in San Jose. The championship bout headlines the event’s Spike-televised main card following prelims on MMAjunkie.
Ortiz hasn’t fought for a belt since 2006, when he rematched rival and then-UFC champ Chuck Liddell at UFC 66. Liddell stopped him in the third round via TKO.
“I’m 40 years old – I want one more chance,” said Ortiz, whose opponent has finished all but one of his fights in the Bellator cage. “I want to let people believe in themselves and believe in me that anything is possible. I’ve had two neck surgery, a back surgery, three knee surgeries, eye surgery, but I keep bouncing back. I won’t go away.
