“I told Dana (White) after I fought ‘Shogun’ (Rua) the second time that I want to go to middleweight. He asked me to fight (Daniel Cormier) instead. I did. I still felt I was able to beat him, but he got me down and got that size on me. It reaffirmed why I should move down to middleweight.”
Henderson’s primary reason for departing middleweight in 2010 was due to the physical trauma placed on near 40-year-old body through weight cutting. Now 44, Henderson is the oldest active fighter on the UFC roster. Despite that he insists, at least as of today, that his weight cut has gone smoothly.
“My weight’s been going down really well this camp,” Henderson said. “I ate really good and had my meals made for me. I didn’t feel run down like I do in any other camp. I feel better than I have in previous camps. My weight keeps dropping. I’m able to drink and eat still and enjoy life.”
