“I want a rematch with Cub Swanson,” Poirier said after the Dec. 28 main-card fight at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. “I feel like I deserve to be 100 percent and fight him.”
When Poirier (15-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) and Swanson (20-5 MMA, 5-1 UFC) first squared off in February, “The Diamond” had stepped in as in injury replacement for Dennis Siver approximately four weeks prior to the fight.
Poirier has lost just twice in nine UFC appearances. One of those losses came when Swanson got the nod from the judges earlier this year.
The result still digs away at Poirier. Now that he’s posted two straight victories since the loss, he feels a rematch is in order.
“I took the fight on short notice, cut 30 pounds that week, flew to London and never felt the feeling I had the night of the fight ever before in my life,” Poirier said. “It was just a bad feeling, I felt like I shouldn’t have been going out there and fighting.”
